Salty Moses

  Salty Moses

Salty Moses has released his first compilation of original songs in an album titled "Choosing Life".  He describes it as "Eclectic in Subject Matter Songs From My Varied Interests and Passions".  The songs are also referred to as "Songs to Contemplate, Rejuvinate and Celebrate Life" with.

I’ve always enjoyed music. I love the violin and enjoy playing in both the context of bluegrass bands and orchestra music. At one time I took lessons from a five time Grand National fiddle champion that initially learned to play classical music.  I believe the best fiddlers are those that have been classically trained.

I’ve stuck with the violin/fiddle and taken lessons from other classical as well as bluegrass artists.  One of these individuals taught me enough about music theory to enable me to write music.  This collection of songs are amongst the first songs I’ve written.    I’ve been a member of a couple of different bluegrass groups and currently play in a community orchestra.

When I was a child I spent a lot of time during the summer at my grandfathers’ place on a lake. My grandfather built a cabin there when I was 5 years old. There were a bunch of relatives that all had places in the same area on the same lake. I became an avid water skier and attempted all kinds of stunts – skiing backwards – turning around on skis – trying to ski bare footed – trying to fly being tethered to the boat. My wife and I were gifted with my folks place on that lake and built a new home there. “The Lake Song” is about my family’s history on that lake and about everybody’s need to have a place to go to recuperate from the stress and pains we face each day.  Everybody needs a place to go – when you’ve got to get away – to take those blues away.

Over the last few years summers at the lake are not what they used to be. August used to be the absolute best month of the year to be at the lake. Now however August has become fire month. Forest fires were never a concern in the past – we never lost lake time because of them. Now the entire month of August can be horrible. It is not safe to go outside and breathe the air/smoke.  I am convinced that Climate Change is responsible for this. But it’s not just the loss of a month to fire season that makes me passionate about this issue.

The science supporting Climate Change is categorized as objective science – which means it is true whether we choose to believe it or not. I wrote “Borrowed Time” out of my passion about the Climate Change issue.  I started writing it during the summer of 2016. The rejection of science and removal of scientific data from government websites, related to Climate Change and the EPA, prompted me to complete the song and have it recorded.  You might say the song is a primer on Climate Change with an upbeat tempo.

My second Climate Change song is titled “There’s A Revolution”.  It is much darker – perhaps even haunting.  It was made this way because of the dire situation we will be in, if we don’t begin acting soon to reduce and eliminate our greenhouse gas emissions.

My goal with these songs is to bring about awareness of this issue - and support for action to reduce the damage being done to our planet. I am convinced Climate Change is the single greatest issue facing mankind, and that we will be able to manage this problem if we choose to do so soon.  The future of civilization is at stake.

“The Narrow Path” is the first song I ever wrote.  It is a really fun song about a few well known bible characters and how they lived their faith and were rewarded for it during their lifetimes.  Perhaps it will find its way into vacation bible school curriculums.  Completing this album is the song “Adopted” which is a praise song thanking God for His adoption of us as fellow heirs and members of His eternal family where Jesus is our brother and savior too.
