Squalid conditions Mexico’s crackdown on illegal immigration

President Trump has signed an executive order putting yet another round of sanctions on Iran, punishment for last week’s downing of an American military drone. Only hours earlier Tehran signaled that it would reconsider negotiating with Washington, with preconditions.

Mexico’s crackdown on illegal immigration is placing migrants into camps where they are facing disease and little water or food. The detention centers are growing worse with each day.

Spotify is building shared-queue Social Listening

New post on iTunes Music & Apple Music Converter

Spotify is building shared-queue Social Listening

by Olivia
Spotify appears to be testing a "Social Listening" feature that lets friends control the music together. This is similar-ish to its collaborative playlist feature, but it contains a real-time component. The idea is that collaborators are listening to the same songs, together — whether physically in the same room, or apart.
Software engineer Jane Manchun Wong, who is known for discovering unreleased app features by digging through code, recently spotted the feature and posted about it on Twitter. Manchun Wong found the feature buried in Spotify's Android app code, which she combs through for "clues" of what the company is working on.
While Manchun Wong has found her way in, Social Listening is currently only available to Spotify employees. You can see screenshots of the feature in her tweets below.
Spotify-Social-Listening
A help screen describes Social Listening as “Listen to music together. 1. On your phone, play a song and select (Connected Devices). You’ll see a code at the bottom of the screen. 2. On your friend’s phone, select the same (Connected Devices) icon, tap SCAN CODE, and point the camera at your code. 3. Now you can control the music together.” You’ll then see friends who are part of your Social Listening session listed in the Connected Devices menu. Users can also copy and share a link to join their Social Listening session that starts with the URL prefix https://open.spotify.com/socialsession/. Note that Spotify never explicitly says that playback will be synchronized.

With streaming apps largely having the same music catalog and similar $9.99 per month premium pricing, they have to compete on discovery and user experience. Spotify has long been in the lead here with its algorithmically personalized Discover Weekly playlists, which were promptly copied by Apple and SoundCloud.

They say that you can tell a lot about a person by the company that they keep. And whilst that is indeed true, it is even more so for musicians. So the fact that Mats Ronander has rubbed creative shoulders, not only home grown legends such as ABBA but has graced the ranks of the likes of Ian Hunter and Graham Parker’s live line-ups, speaks volumes.

Mats has a string of critically and commercially acclaimed albums to his name, particularly in his beloved blues genre but also branching out across any number musical fields. He is a much sought after musician, as his resume shows, and his almost 50 years in the industry has seen him in studios, sessions and on stages and in touring bands across the globe.

Having gathered around him an equally impressive cast of players to form The Dusty Runners, Would You? is an album which mixes slick country grooves, polished blues and approachable rock, all shot through with accessible, soulfulness and infectious vibes. It’s where commercial possibilities meet rootsy traditions, where the sound of the American dream gets dressed up for an even bigger international audience.

At one extreme you have the purer Nashville infused sounds of the Karin Risberg led Nothing’s The Same, a song that just glistens with rhinestones and personal reflection and at the other The Bridge plays with big funky, soulful blues. The title track wanders through some latin inspired beats, Spare Me Some change is a bluesy plea and My World showcases the gospel harmonies which are never very far away from the proceedings.

It’s a fine album, deftly constructed, able to wander across genres yet deliver a consistent overall sound, one where rootsy underground music is taken from the truck stops and downtown blues bars and represented and repackaged for a slicker uptown audience. Purists might prefer their music with the rough edges still in evidence but Ronander’s ability to create such sounds for a much bigger stage is exactly why he has had such a successful career.

Han Epskamp / BUMA/STEMRA / Han Epskamp Music

Han Epskamp has been writing songs from the age of 10, but on a more professional level since 2000. In 2004 he reunited the female trio Mai Tai that performed his song  'Bring back the music' at the Dutch preselection of the Eurovision Songcontest.

He founded Life-work in 2009 after producer Tim Ellis asked him late 2009 if he could use some help with the production of his songs. The first recording was the ballad 'Wonder where you are' with Karen Orchin. Pete Hammond turned the ballad into a dance smash. Another song 'My heart' was recorded and also remixed by Pete Hammond, followed by ‘You won't see my tears' which was specially written for Karen's voice. Three more singles followed, all with Karen as a lead singer and Pete remixed all three of them.

Coming from North Ireland and a family of singers, Karen made her debut aged 2 at Butlins when her performance of Zippidy Do Dah set her on a track that has taken her through singing in pubs and clubs, numerous musical theatre roles and into the world of opera.

At the Theatre Royal, Brighton, roles include Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Julie (Carousel), Yum Yum (Hot Mikado). At the Dome, Brighton, she has appeared as Maria (The Sound of Music) and Margo (Desert Song) and many more operas and musicals.

Life-work is privileged to work with Pete 'Mixmaster' Hammond is, who is an icon in the British pop industry. He has an impressive list of hit productions on his name, not only as a remixer and producer for Stock, Aitken, and Waterman but also as a sound engineer, writer, and musician.

Pete has been credited on 140 UK hits singles (11 of which were No. 1 and 55 were TOP 10) and countless albums between 1978 and 1995. Since remixing Alphabeat's "Boyfriend he has been asked to do 80's style remixes for a number of high profile acts. Pete has worked with Kylie, Rick Astley, Lonnie Gordon, Debbie Harry, Bananarama, Gloria Estefan, Donna Summer, ABC, Sinitta, Boney M & many more.
