Biscay ft. Hattie Whitehead

Biscay comprise 4 jazz/funk/prog instrumentalists who write songs about the human condition set to a dizzying range of genres. Using a range of vocalists (chosen to suit each song), this is a deliberately diverse formula. It’s a formula which seems to work given Biscay are 2-time winners of the UK Songwriting Competition (amongst others – see Awards page on our website https://biscay.co.uk/awards/). We have released 8 new songs as singles since October 2024 into 2025 and The Joy Of Missing Out is our 9th such release.

Biscay’s first EP release was ‘Burnt Mementos‘ in April 2017, followed by a second EP ‘Stare At The Sun’ in March 2020. Through the pandemic lockdowns a further 5 singles were released. All are available on Spotify and all other main streaming platforms.

Released on International Day of Happiness (March 20th), The Joy Of Missing Out (JOMO) proposes an alternative to FOMO. It suggests our suffering comes from trying to fit in, complying with social norms, and acquiring unnecessary material things we think will make us happier. Instead, there’s a joy to be had by ignoring it all. Socrates would have applauded. A deliberately joyful, funky groove seemed appropriate with (we hope) a truly uplifting chorus. The song features the fabulous Hattie Whitehead on vocals.

The Joy Of Missing Out lyrics:

Can’t see why we have this need to comply

Think you’ll win if you just try to fit in, fit in

Well, got to say it’s not the way,

Get off main drag zig while the others zag, they zag

The joy of missing out, every fad you do without

The joy of missing out, calm the voice that used to shout

The joy of missing out, beat your own path have no doubt

Can’t presume you’re better off to consume, smash the loom

Just defy each evil corporate lie, deny...

The thought that stuff fulfils your needs

Take a tip from good old Socrates, he pleads...

The joy of missing out, every fad you do without

The joy of missing out, calm the voice that used to shout

The joy of missing out, beat your own path have no doubt

What you own don’t make you feel less alone

Debts and loans they turn us all into drones, unknowns

Dodge the mall, ignore it all

Skip the queues and bask in what you choose, you can’t lose

The joy of missing out...do without

The joy of missing out, calm the voice that used to shout

The joy of missing out, beat your own path have no doubt
